Show site members on a Google map

Using the free api from IPInfoDB (Free IP address geolocation tools) we are able to add to your joomla site user data information like: geographic latitude, longitude, city, nation and therefore we are able to show on a Google map. Please remember  that you need your API key. Here is an example of our site members.

How to install

The obviously first step is to download the Extension Package from the download site, the AUser Manager is a complex joomla extensions and is made of one component and several modules and plugins, so we have released it as a self-installing package, you don't need to manual install every single piece, the installation Package make all the dirty work for you, so like every other Joomla! extensions log in the administrative side go to  > Extensions > Install/Uninstall, in the Upload Package File section click Browse and locate the archive of the AUser Manger Package you wish to install, then click Upload File & Install to upload the file and complete the installation.

Honeypot Project help to stop spammer

stop spamIn this article i'll illustrate how the Project HoneyPot can help to stop spammer on a Joomla site. The AUser Manager extensions come out with the Detector Plugin, if enabled and proper configured, every time someone try to login or to register to your site the Detector plugin query the Project HoneyPot and depending on the response deny or allow the user login or registration. The feature used is the so called "HTTP Blacklist".

"The HTTP Blacklist, or "http:BL", is a system that allows website administrators to take advantage of the data generated by Project Honey Pot in order to keep suspicious and malicious web robots off their sites. Project Honey Pot tracks harvesters, comment spammers, and other suspicious visitors to websites. Http:BL makes this data available to any member of Project Honey Pot in an easy and efficient way.Http:BL provides data back about the IP addresses of visitors to your website. Data is exchanged over the DNS system. You may query your local DNS server and receive a response back that indicates the type of visitor to your site, how threatening that visitor is, and how long it has been since the visitor has last been seen within the Project Honey Pot trap network."

For more information read the Honeypot FAQ.

For my personsal experience and from what tell's me other AUser Manager users after installing the Detector plugin the number of fake user registrations are drastically decreased.

Registration approval by administrator in Joomla

By default joomla provides no method to pre-approve registrations before providing access. There are two choices
Automatically approve on signup.
Automatically approve once email has been confirmed.

Joomla by default provides two methods for approve user registration:

  • Automatically approve on signup.
  • Automatically approve once email has been confirmed.
There is no way to require approval by a system administrator with the standard joomla, for achieve this feature you need to install an extension. With AUser Manager you are able to add this way, request approval by joomla site adminstrator before let user logon your site. This feature give to the site administrator a chance to check the registration before accepting it,being able to approve the registration after reviewing the registration is a must on club-base sites. Let me show how is easy to set this feature, on administrative side choose Components -> AUser manager
